Media in Gender Project

The Media in Gender Project of The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development CJID highlights the intersection between media and gender issues. It serves as a means of advancing the inclusion of gender perspectives in media coverage and attaining gender equality in Africa. It also aims to improve media reportage on gender issues and to promote gender balance in the news value chain, news bylines, and newsroom leadership structures through research, capacity building, and advocacy. The project was officially created in 2021 in recognition of a pervasive ignorance in the Nigerian media about gender issues, including gender equality, gender-based violence, and exclusion of women in politics and social and economic spheres.

Objective

Through research, capacity building, investigative reporting, and advocacy, the Media in Gender Project seeks to address systemic barriers to gender equality in the media by empowering media professionals to become agents of change and foster a more inclusive and equitable media landscape across West Africa.
