Media in Gender
The Media in Gender Project of The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development project was created in recognition of a pervasive ignorance in the Nigerian media about gender issues including gender equality; gender-based violence; exclusion of women in politics; and in social and economic spheres. It highlights the intersection between media and gender issues and utilises the power of the media to ensure gender inclusion and equality in all aspects of democratic life.
The project monitors media content and builds the capacities of journalists and newsrooms to address the challenges of misrepresentation and under-representation of women and other vulnerable groups in storytelling. The ultimate aim is to facilitate inclusive journalism; to promote gender balance in the news value chain, news bylines, and newsroom leadership structures through research, capacity building, and advocacy.
