Documentary Screening: Gas Flaring and Climate Accountability

Natural Resource Governance Institute in partnership with the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID)  hosted a documentary screening and sharing session focused on the human cost of gas flaring, methane emissions, and weak enforcement of Nigeria’s climate laws.

The convening brought together stakeholders to examine how communities living near petroleum assets continue to face significant health and livelihood risks, despite existing policies. Panel discussions called for stronger enforcement mechanisms, greater accountability, and more inclusive approaches that centre community voices.

Through screening and discussion, the session shifted the climate conversation from policy commitments to lived realities, highlighting the gap between Nigeria’s climate goals and on-the-ground realities. It also reinforced the urgent need to translate climate frameworks into tangible action.
