DUBAWA: Call for Applications

DUBAWA is a transnational fact-checking and verification platform initiated by the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) and focused on countering and debunking mis/disinformation in the public space. It also addresses information disorder through research,
media literacy, and producing explainers. This helps to build consumer knowledge about issues and misinformation patterns while enabling better information consumption behaviour.


We are recruiting to fill the following position(s) below:

Job Title: Editor

The Editor will work closely with the Deputy Director of the Verification and Media programme to achieve the goals of the Dubawa project and CJID in varied capacities.
Location: Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia.

Competency and Skills Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field, a PhD will be an added experience.
  • Knowledge of legal issues involved in publishing, such as libel and plagiarism.
  • A minimum of five years of similar work experience
  • Excellent research, story writing and telling skills.
  • Sound knowledge of research and fact-checking tools.
  • Great Fact-Checking skills.
  • Critical-thinking capabilities.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Great Interpersonal skills for stakeholder collaboration and engagement.
  • Project management

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective editorial leadership in all content generation efforts of the team.
  • Edit fact-check, media literacy and explainer articles, and ensure a strict and proper standard for all published work for the Dubawa website.
  • Identify and assign claims for fact-checking and investigation.
  • Supervise and organise fact-checkers and contributing writers on the platform.
  • Generate content idea strategies and assign claims to achieve all Dubawa objectives.
  • Support the team in the seamless implementation and integration of projects.
  • Manage Dubawa’s external editorial engagements, meetings, and collaborations.

Job Title: Fact-Checker/Researcher

The Fact-checker/ Researcher works closely with the Editor and the Deputy Director of the Verification and Media programme to achieve the goals of the Dubawa project and CJID in varied capacities.

  • Sound knowledge of technology and fact-checking tools.
  • Great Research and Fact-Checking skills.
  • Critical-thinking capabilities.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Highly organised with excellent prioritization and time management skills
  • Project management
  • Detail-oriented with attention to detail. 
  • Collaborative team player with the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source for claims and misinformation on various platforms and fora.
  • Write Fact-checks, Media and Information Literacy Articles and other content as directed to be published on Dubawa’s website and those of partner organisations. 
  • Produce not less than three (3) content pieces for the platform weekly.
  • Assist in all research efforts or data monitoring tasks as directed by the Programme Officer.
  • Prepare progress reports for the organisation when necessary. 
  • Represent the organisation in meetings, workshops, and conferences when necessary and as directed by the Editor and Deputy Director.
  • Contribute to team strategy and meetings.
  • Liaison support to other departments in the organisation and partner organisations.
