The Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism (PTCIJ) is initiating Nigeria’s first Agricultural Journalism Training programme for media practitioners.  The 3-day Masterclass will equip journalists and agricultural communication specialists with the right tools and knowledge they need to put the issues of the sector in perspective as the nation looks to alternative sources of income beyond oil and gas.

The Masterclass, according to PTCIJ chief executive, Dapo Olorunyomi, will provide a dynamic professional development experience for attendees to focus on reporting, writing, and editing skills; agricultural issues from policy, through sciences, to the farmgate; communication ethics; legal challenges in the sector; audience engagement strategies across platforms, data and investigative journalism skills; legal issues; leadership skill, media trends and agribusiness.

It will also give participants, Mr. Olorunyomi adds, access to a broad spread of contacts from government, research, policy development, civil society, scientists, media peers, and industry captains who are all intricately involved in transforming Nigeria’s new agricultural landscape.

The training is part of PTCIJ’s vision to develop critical but currently underreported sectors of the nation’s economy in the broad attempt to bring robust journalism into the design of a thriving and truly performing component of the development ecosystem of the country.

The training is in partnership with Notore Chemical Industries Plc (Notore), one of Africa’s leading fertilizer and agro-allied company. Notore operates the premier fertiliser plant in Sub-Saharan Africa thus placing it in a strategic position for championing the African Green Revolution.
